Weekend events: Friday.

OK, enough has gone on this weekend that I decided to divide this up into several entries.
lerryn picked me up after work and we grabbed dinner at the Elephant & Castle near my workplace. Then we wandered over to
idle_thoughts's place. We rather badly misjudged the amount of time it would take to get over there, and pulled up at 6:20. Given that the party didn't start until 7, I figured trying to knock on the door would be a bad idea. So, we went for a walk to try and kill some time. It's a very nice neighborhood, lots of cats saying hello as we walked by.
We killed about 25 minutes that way, and decided to head back and see if maybe we could come in and help a bit. Our timing was still way too early, but they let us in anyways. We were then thoroughly greeted by Roslyn (sp?) and Kiki. Kiki was especially amusing, because when I didn't pay enough attention to her, she decided to climb into my lap. *wince* And i discovered that yes, this cat has *all* of her claws. Still, she was very beautiful and quite friendly.
After that, we helped get a table and some chairs set up, arranging and preparing various food stuffs and drinks. It was a lot of fun. =) Yes, I truly do like helping out before a get-together. It helps me make the transition into 'social-mode', mostly because my mom would have me help with the preparations anytime she was giving a party. Besides, washing and tearing up spinach leaves has a soothing quality to it.
Not too long after, people started arriving. Funny how that happens at parties. ;) I met and talked with a fair number of people at the beginning, though I got a bit intimidated by the number of unknown faces there. I ran into S. from Canada, who I hadn't seen in over a year. It was good to see her and chat for a bit.
Most of the time I spent talking with
plantae, which I very much enjoyed. She's a good listener, and has a fair number of cool stories. Plus she tried to show me how tatting works, even though it had gotten dark out by that point, and I was squinting at her demonstration under a streetlight. Still, she didn't expect me to pick it up just from her verbal explanation, which was a relief. I'm hoping sometime I can get over to Biomass again so she can show me again and I can attempt to make the knots myself. We'll see. I'm fairly hopeless with craft stuff, but that looked like something that would be about perfect for when I'm feeling fidgety.
One of the highlights of the evening for me was coming back from the house and seeing
runnerwolf and
sar_anon telling stories from their time in college to an interested circle of people. Don't really know how to explain this, just I felt happy that two people that I find highly fascinating were also being fascinating to others. Lots of people there that I didn't get much chance to talk with. I wasn't feeling hugely social, so staying in one corner and talking with whoever happened to be near there was a very good thing for me.
Still, I went home practically trilling to Lerryn because I'd enjoyed myself greatly. (And no, I'm fairly sure it wasn't just the effect of the bottle of cider I had at the party.)
